Love on the Rocks (4/5)
Jul. 29th, 2010 02:12 pmA/N: Well, here's the calm before the storm chapter! Expect a big ending to this! And enjoy the twists to the story at the end ;) P.S.: The song has NOTHING to do with the story at all, so if u like to listen to the song while reading this, it may seem a little...out of place? lol :P Enjoy :D
It was a calm peaceful morning on the sea, not one cloud in sight for as far as the eye could see. It just happened to be Brad's favorite type of day, for when he was just a young boy, his mother had said that fair weather meant good fortune to a man. She had said that if you were lucky enough to be on a ship on days like those, it only meant pleasant times ahead.
Yet, she never said they would come immediately.
The quiet tap of a man's hand knocking on their door echoed through the quiet room that Adam and his new boy Kris shared, and with both being unclothed, neither dared to answer the door. Kris actually made a bolt for the closet, scared to be found naked in a bed with Adam, knowing the consequences of what they had done very clearly. With a groggy voice, Adam answered the knock.
"Hello? Who goes there?"
"It's just me, Adam," Brad chirped from behind the door, "can I come in? I must tell you something!"
Looking around him, Adam bit his lip self consciously and then pulled the covers tight around his body, hoping Brad wouldn't be able to guess what they had done. Yeah, it had been almost a week since Brad found out Kris and him had ever actually done it before, so it wouldn't be bad if he found out, but the fact that Brad saw Kris go into his own room the previous night before heading off to his bed only made Adam want to not tell him more. With a nervous glance in the direction of his closet and Kris, Adam replied to the now eager Brad.
"Um...okay. Come on in."
Within seconds Brad came bounding through the door happily with a cheerful grin as big as the sea and a skip to his step that showed his true happiness. Without even noticing Adam wasn't clothed, Brad hopped on to his bed and sat in front of him, slightly bouncing on Adam's bed.
"Oh Adam, I have such great news! Marvelous news, actually! It's clear skies out today!"
"Well goodie," Adam replied uninterested, "what marvelous news, Brad. Thanks for practically waking me up for that."
Brad rolled his eyes. "Oh you just be quiet, you have no clue what I'm about to tell you! Okay, so, when I was little, my mom told me fair skies meant good fortune for a man on a boat! I was thinking that maybe this might be the end to all of this toil and strife finally! I mean, we're just about 100 miles to home, nobody wants to kill us anymore, and you and Kris are close as ever! It's just such a happy ending, huh? All thanks to the skies clearing up!"
Smirking, Adam just stared at Brad, watching amused as he kept bouncing slightly on the bed as his excitement grew. What a ding-dong.
"You seriously think our good fortune is because of the skies turning clear for one day?"
"My Mommy is always right, Adam!"
"How old are you again, Brad?"
"Must I say?"
"Oh shut up, Brad." The two just chuckled happily for a moment, all stress breaking away from them. Adam suddenly heard a small whimper come from the closet, realizing that Kris was still squished into that small closet he had. Apparently, he wasn't the only one to notice. Brad had also turned his head in Kris's direction, a devilish look on his face.
"Adam....what exactly do you have in your closet?"
"Nothing," he shyly replied, pulling the covers even closer to him. Brad got up and slowly walked towards the door, gently placing his hand on the handle.
"So.....would you care if I just opened this door and looked at the so called 'nothing' in your closet?"
"Yes!"
Both men's gazes flashed to the closet door, Brad about to burst out laughing and Adam about to kill Brad and save Kris from the closet. Brad slowly turned the nob and opened the door, politely turning away so that he couldn't see Kris.
"Kristopher, just go hop back next to Adam and have peaceful dreams, okay?"
For a moment, the room was utterly silent, and then the sound of fast footsteps filled the room until the sound of Adam's bed creaking was heard, followed by a few blankets being ruffled. Brad then decided that it was okay to look again, and when he did, he saw two brown eyes gazing embarrassed from behind the covers of the bed, Adam biting his lip to stop from laughing at his beloved Kris. Brad, though, just let his laugh out, causing Kris to turn dark red and hide even more under the covers.
"You two have fun, now! Be up in time for lunch, ya' hear?"
"Get the heck out of here, Brad!" Adam yelled, throwing a pillow at the door as Brad slinked through it quickly, just missing it flying at him.
Oh how I love to hate him. Ding-Dong indeed.

Meanwhile, on the small island the crew were heading off to, Gerald and Oswald's fleet were just docking, nearly scaring the other men in the small shipyard half to death just by their presence. It wasn't every day that a ship of that standard would dock there, especially one as important as that one. One docked, Gerald and Oswald walked off their ship gracefully and headed toward what looked to be the town. Before leaving their ship, Oswald turned to a short but stout man who was walking with a barrel of ship equipment and stopped him dead in his tracks, his gun just showing from under his long coat.
"My dear sir, do you happen to know where the market is here on this fine island?"
The man nodded and shakily pointed to his right, his bottom lip quivering a bit. Then, with a heavy Mediterranean accent, he spoke to them.
"I know little English, but market that way few mile."
Gerald nodded and swiftly walked off with Oswald, slightly hitting the man with the edge of his coat, making him jump in fear. Once relieved to see them leave without harming him, the man scampered away with his things to his boat, his body still shaking in fear.
As the men reached the market, they walked straight up to this one lady's cloth cart, recognizing who the lady was almost instantly. Leila Lambert. Gerald greeted her politely, his hat causing a dark haze over his eyes that made him intimidating. Leila smiled and clutched a cloth in her hand tightly. Oswald noticed and devilishly smirked at it.
"Ma'am, I would love to discuss the possibilities of getting a beautiful cloth of yours, but we're very weary from on journey and need some shade. Do you mind if we talk it over in the shade of that alley over there?"
Leila wasn't an idiot, but she didn't suspect harm to come from the men from their nice attire, so she followed them kindly into the alley, her smile never leaving her face. Just as she was about to turn to face them, Oswald slammed her against one building and yanked the cloth from her hand, using it to muffle her sounds so that they wouldn't be noticed. As he kept her pinned down through her relentless fighting, Gerald chuckled and looked at her with a crooked smile.
"Hello Leila," he darkly muttered, "nice to see you. You, my dear, shall be of great need to us, and may become.....our slave...if you know what I mean."
Leila frantically fought against Oswald's grasp, yelling fiercely into the cloth as tears fell down her cheeks in stress. Gerald gazed at her and came close to her, pausing a moment to caress her cheek.
"Calm now, my dear. Your only hope is your filthy son, and I'm hoping that he doesn't save you.....sure would be saddening to not have the opportunity to use you....oh well, time shall tell. Until then, we have a trip to go on with! We must meet your son out on the waters! Now, we will take away the cloth, but, if you try to speak, must I point out our guns?"
Leila trembled in fear, but strongly nodded and stood still as Oswald took out the cloth from her mouth. Gerald smiled and took her hand tightly in his.
"Now, my doll, follow me and act like nothing is wrong...or else."
Eyes transfixed on the guns the men had, Leila followed their command and silently walked with them, ignoring awkward gazes from friends and neighbors as she headed towards the shipyard. Most awkward was of her son Neil's, for he knew something was up. He knew Leila never left her cloth cart for any reason, especially to go to the shipyard. Curious, Neil followed a ways behind them out of sight, his eyes and ears focused on the group. As they came to the ship, Neil almost ran out and risked his life to save his mom, but the guns he saw were enough to frighten him off.
But, they weren't enough to stop him from notifying someone. Especially when that someone was his brother, Adam.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was mid evening three days later when Adam received the news Neil had sent. It had come from a very frantic Brad while him and Kris were laying in bed (clothed) resting. He had stormed in with eyes wide and face frazzled.
"Adam, our good luck has changed! News from your brother, Neil, has reached us, and it's not good news! Adam....I'm afraid English men have stolen your mother from your home and have taken her with them and are going to use her as a bribe to get Kris back."
Kris gulped as he turned to see Adam's reaction. No one could possibly take that news easily. Especially Adam, for he was so delicate when it came to family. Kris just could tell this wouldn't be good. Sure enough, he was right. Adam flew out of his bed and stormed up to Brad, backing him up against the wall angrily.
"YOU BETTER NOT BE LYING TO ME JUST TO INTERRUPT KRIS AND I, BRAD! BECAUSE THAT ISN'T SOMETHING YOU-"
"No," Brad said with his arms raised and an innocent but calm look on his face, "I swear Adam. Your brother said it, not me. We just got word of it. I'm really sorry."
Slowly getting up, Kris walked over to Adam and gently wrapped his arms around him from behind him, laying his head on his back as Adam began to cry. Soon, he felt Adam's warm hands wrap around his own, feeling just how weak Adam felt right then.
"Adam.....are you okay?"
Adam fiercely shook his head, tears still falling down his face. "First they took my father.....now they want my mother? Why not me, huh?"
Kris calmly turned Adam to face him and kissed him smack on the lips, slowly pulling away to look into his eyes.
"Adam....never say that ever again. I know what my Dad did to you and your Dad was horrible...but I think that after you attacked his ship and all that that he wouldn't come back! It can't be him doing this! He cares for my safety!"
"You're just lucky I love you as much as I do, Kris."
Brad gulped and slinked a bit away from the two, knowing that this wasn't going to be pretty.
"What do you mean by that, Adam?"
"Adam," Brad pleaded, "you're very sad right now and probably can't think straight. Please, just rest before you say anything you may regret. Please."
"Shut up Brad!" Adam yelled furiously as he came closer to Kris. "What I mean, Kris, is that if I didn't love you as much as I do that I would just turn you over for my Mom in a heartbeat! I know they want you back! Your father is probably too weak and they need you to 'command their ships' just like he did so that they can kill me! It's a lose lose situation for me! Either way I'm dead, Kris! If I turn you in, then they'll force you to kill me! If I don't turn you in, they'll kill me! I'm hopeless!"
Just then unexpectedly, Kris hit Adam across the face and then pulled him utterly inches from him, forcing Adam to look him in the eye. Kris then kissed him hard and powerful, seeing Adam's eyes grow wider in shock by the seconds. Finally, Kris let go of him, letting Adam get a chance to rub his cheek and actually speak.
"What was that for?"
"For being an idiot and a jerk just then! My gosh Adam, I can have a say in their decision, too! I can tell them that I don't want to leave and they'll have to listen! The king of our country gave me and my father authority to tell them what to do! They aren't allowed to walk all over me and force me to leave! Your life isn't in danger, Adam! I promise!"
A small smile reached Adam's lips, and with a quick hug, it seemed like the old Adam was back. The fearless pirate was back. Only problem: the English guys were still coming, and they were probably real close.
"So," Brad said awkwardly, "um....what do we do now?"
"Prepare," Adam said coldly, "for this isn't going to be any battle. This, my dear Brad, is for all the marbles. Go alert the crew. For all we know, they could be just mere miles from our ship. Now go!"
Once Brad had left the room, Adam took Kris's hand quietly and dragged him over to the bed, a small seductive smirk on his face that gave away his whole plan to Kris. As soon as they were both sitting down on it, Adam spoke.
"Kris.....I have faith we'll win and everything will be okay...but if it doesn't...well, you know what will happen..."
"We die, huh?"
With a bark of a laugh, Adam nodded. "Yup. Well, there's one thing I'd like to do before I die, and I think you kind of know what that is, don't you?"
Kris nodded, his eyes turning a bit darker and sexier. "Of course I do. Come here, Adam."
And with one kiss, they're last, most enjoyable time before the fight began.
If only that time would've been able to last....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in the ocean on the English men's boat, Leila was huddled tightly in her small cell, her beautiful dress now mated in dirt and water from the boat. Clutching a necklace Adam had bought for her when his father died close to her heart, she began to pray to be safe. Suddenly, Gerald stepped into the room, his eyes dark and menacing. Leila huddled closer to the corner instinctively.
"Oh my dear lady," Gerald said with a smirk, "why do you huddle in that corner? I'd rather see you dance in that cage..."
"Oh go get eaten by sharks and die!" she screamed at Gerald, her eyes filled with anger. Gerald simply began to fiddle with her cell lock, opening it slowly. Seeing this, Leila leaped from he corner and ran to the door, trying her hardest to escape. Sadly, Gerald was stronger than her, so he was easily able to grab her arms and drag her out of her cell and to a new one without trouble. Once at the new one, a wicked smile came on his lips as he threw her into it.
"I hope you enjoy your new cell and cellmate, my dear lady!"
And then he left, his boots hitting the floor the only noise able to be heard. Suddenly, a tall man with gray hair walked up to her and held out his hand politely.
Only bad thing was that it was Kris's father Neil: the man who had killed her husband.
Also, the man she had once loved.
"Neil?" Leila harshly questioned, "Is that you? Is that the horrible man who murdered my Eber and left my son to see his father die? Is it really you?"
Neil sighed as he helped Leila up. "Please, let's not make this any worse than it already is."
"Oh, I'm all for making this worse for you, Neil! How dare you hurt my son and I like that! I'm glad he took everything away from you, Neil! You deserved it! YOU DESERVE THIS!" Taking out all her anger, Leila slapped Neil in the face and screamed that over and over again at him. Finally, her body couldn't take much more anger, so she fell to the ground crying, her face red and stained with tears.
"And to think I loved you once, Neil. You just had to kill him because I left him for you. You just had to, huh? You couldn't just deal with it, even after you found your wife and had a son! I'm proud Adam took him from you! You know why? Because now he doesn't have to grow up unloved! You never loved him! You just wanted to make him your successor! Not a loving son, a damn apprentice! How dare you!"
"How can you say I never loved my son, Leila? I saved your beloved Adam because of what my son told me to do!"
"You do one thing for your child and that covers up the fact that you killed a whole ship full of men who had families they actually DID care about? I'm sure you never told Kris why you were on that ship when you killed my husband! Why? Because you didn't want to have him think you were a bad person! Shame on you, Neil!"
Neil looked down at his feet and deeply sighed.
"Well, we can go on like this for the rest of our time on this ship, Leila, but it won't do us any good. Fact is that your son and my son are about to go through a lot pretty soon. I have a feeling this may turn out bad. The most we can do is pray that they find out about this and are prepared, right?"
Although Leila was far from done yelling at him, she had to agree. With a nod, Leila looked at her necklace and then looked up above her, her eyes full of tears.
My dear Eber, please, watch over your son......I'm begging you, sweetie. Please help us all just get back to normal.
To be continued.....
